Mission Statement
Our mission is to champion the quality of education through the provision of basic logistics and educational supplies for the needy in different parts of Ghana.
A child’s tiny dreams can evolve into a bigger picture and change the world with the right educational support. Especially in Africa, access to quality education has been a severe problem in many countries. In Ghana, particularly, many children suffer from a lack of tools, books, and other instructional resources to support their education. As such, we offer our hands to help these individuals and guide them through reaching their dreams beyond barriers.
Abena Dokua Educational Foundation (ADEF) is a USA based registered 501(C)(3) non-profit agency in Virginia. Our organization seeks to support quality education for students all over Ghana. To date, the foundation has helped at least 2,000 students from different schools in Kyebi, Ghana. And, currently, we continue to find the right resources to extend our help to other parts of the country.
Abena Dokua Educational Foundation (ADEF) was established to honor the memory of Maame Abena Dokua who sadly passed away in 2001. In 2011, her children, on her tenth death anniversary, decided to bequeath the younger generation an opportunity to excel in education using the foundation as a vehicle. Maame Dokua is fondly remembered by her seven children: Kwabena Boateng, Joyce Owusu Boateng, Eric Boakye Boateng, Owusu Akyem, Akwasi Akyeampong, Nana Ama Boateng, and Kwaku Boateng.
Ironically, Maame Dokua never sat in a classroom, had no formal education, but her passion and desire to instill the high importance of education in anyone she came in contact was just marvelous. She believed in the power of knowledge acquisition and the sense of independence education offers. Maame Dokua was willing to sell her personal belongings to ensure her children attain whatever level of education they wanted.
Since its inception in 2011, ADEF has, through the benevolence of friends and loved ones, managed to sponsor selected students in pursuit of quality education. ADEF has given scholarships to brilliant but needy students as well as school uniforms, backpacks, books, and other school supplies, including mathematical sets, exercise books, and other school items.
